Naturopathic training closely parallels medical training, including three years of undergraduate pre-medical sciences, and a four-year full-time program focused on preparing clinicians for the challenges of primary care practice. NDs must pass regulatory board exams, which includes passing NPLEX, a North American standard exam, and maintain their competency by meeting continuing education requirements

About Julia Fountain ND

I suppose I was working toward a career in naturopathic medicine before I knew it existed. Growing up on a 4th generation family farm in Huron County - eating homegrown food, identifying plants, making maple syrup in the spring, getting fresh air and exercise everyday was just a way of life. Our family was living off-grid long before it was in vogue (in fact it was seen as backward) and I remember much of my childhood spent cutting wood in the bush, swimming in the mill pond and digging potatoes with my grandpa.
In university I followed my love of plants and pursued a degree in botany. I learned of naturopathic medicine through my interest in herbalism. In 1998 I graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, completed board exams and settled in Dallas Texas where bigger is better and there's no such thing as life in the slow lane (unless you're a cowboy!). Life was fast - 60 hour work weeks, 100 mile/day commutes...fast food wasn't fast enough for our lifestyle. It was invigorating and rewarding work.
After 8 years the call of four seasons, family, friends and a more balanced life beckoned us back to Ontario and in 2005 we settled in Georgetown. We have 2 sons who help us 'smell the roses' and who are most patient with my naturopathic ways (what, another brand of fish oil to try?!)
Over the years I've had the opportunity to learn from the most extraordinary doctors, healers, mentors, authors and most of all...patients. I'm humbled by the power of body, mind and spirit in helping people recover and feel better. While our physical health allows us to lead full days, our emotional and spiritual health allows us to feel fulfilled. Health is organic - it grows and develops, ebbs and flows. If we can be involved in your health care we're honoured. Cheers to living not just full but fulfilling lives...and slowing down enough to enjoy fast food (once in a while)! Dr. Julia
